SolarVengeance GALAXIAE | www.galaxiae.org | www.solarvengeance.org

This website is meanwhile in a large scale rebuilding process. We are forced to stop our community building process for SolarVengeance because since SV6 we do not have a server version of the game and thus cannot run our community game server.

Dear visitors, GALAXIAE was using the game SolarVengeance SV5 (version 5, client and server) as a GameEngine for a new gametype Galaxiae, thus a new game with different rules, different icons and different victory conditions. The problem with using SV5 as a game engine were bugs in the client software: The game slowed extremly down after a few minutes, so we have to decide that further developing GALAXIAE with SV5 was unacceptable.

Meanwhile a new version of SolarVengeance was created by SCG, SV6, however SV6 is now a browser based game: The client is directly loaded when you visit the website. The original game is now playable, however a server version is no longer offered by the developer. Thus we are forced to stop the development process by using SV and have to find another game engine to adapt our game design concept and the basic rules.

If you are looking for the former about 50 pages of strategies, tactics and hints to SV5/Galaxiae: We have deactivated these pages and their German translation. As a gaming community we would like to run our own game server for our own members and their families. We would like to decide on our own which scenario and maps we run, which victory conditions we would like to have. We would like to run a server in closed LANs for LAN parties with our friends. We want to be able to insure that a game server for our members could be run also in 3 and more years. We want a game that may be used for creative gamers to create and design new scenario types without programming a total new game. We want to be able to decide on our own with whom we would like to play on our servers. We DO NOT want to be forced to play on a maingame server in USA.

We want to bring back the game concept of SolarVengeance in GALAXIAE with more features and a free-for-all game engine concept. A strategy game for players and designers and developers. A sandbox game engine for an abstract, large scale multiplayer game for all ages from 12 to "99" years. If you want to join us, to support us and/or to help us in this process of maybe developing a new game engine from scratch using open-source technologies: Feel free to use our contact form.

PS: If you are looking for opponents in SV6 feel free to contact us with the contact form.

PSS: If you are looking for playing SV4 we may decide to restart the SV 4.0 game server.

Feel free to play the official new SV6 browser game of SCG on the one and only server in the USA.

To connect to the game with your browser you need the free silverlight plugin from Microsoft. We have installed a link to the game at xampp.com.

We have installed a link with a short explaination at xampp.

Comments on SV6

"SV6 is great, but does SCG really expect that strategy players will invest their time to learn a complex strategy game and promote it among their friends if no one can be sure that the server - run by a one-man-company - will run a year from now? Fans of the game still would have SV4 and SV5 als a fall back version; new players however will have nothing."

"SV6 is an intesting abstract strategy game with a huge benefit: The movement of units is calculated every 1 second, thus the game can be played from players from different continents. And matches are mostly won or lost in 10 to 30 minutes. Despite the slowdown-bug SV5 and also the old SV4 was better: You simply needed some old old notebooks with WLAN or a hub to build up a LAN party. This was fun. I do not want to be forced to play on a server in the USA. I do not want to download game files from a company that I do not know. And I have no idea who reads my in game chat messages."

"SV4 was somehow better: Editing game files and brains was much more simple. Even testing brains (computer opponents) was simple: There was a testing tool where a new brain played against all other brains."

"SV4 had two great benefits that I did not find in SV5 or SV6: You could save multiplayer games. Most games are rather short, however in SV4 it was possible to play with up to about 10 players with 100 or 200 star systems and thus large fleets fight a galactic battle. SV5 nearly slowed down or really stopped if you have more than 250 units on the map. SV6 might be a good concept, however I have never found an opponent on the server."

"SV6 without the possibility to edit scenario files and brains is crap. This changes the game concept of Solar Vengeance in a way that this is no longer Solar Vengeance."
